麻豆区 Welcomes More Than 1,000 New Students for Third Consecutive Year

麻豆区 is welcoming over 1,000 new students to campus this fall for the third year in a row, a significant milestone that highlights the university鈥檚 sustained momentum and strategic enrollment growth鈥攅ven amid a challenging higher education landscape.
This fall鈥檚 incoming class includes first-time and transfer students joining the Grand Rapids campus, along with graduate students, re-enrolling students, and participants in specialized programs like the Calvin Prison Initiative.
A Strong Class in a Complex Landscape
鈥淭he strength of this year鈥檚 incoming class is a testament to the extraordinary work of our enrollment team and to the enduring appeal of a Calvin education,鈥 said Lauren Jensen, vice president for enrollment strategy. 鈥淲e鈥檙e seeing sustained growth in applications, admissions, and new student interest from outside Michigan鈥攃lear signs that Calvin鈥檚 reach and reputation continue to expand.鈥
Since 2020, Calvin has seen applications rise by 78% and admissions by over 65% with a 35% increase in enrollment during that same span. Those trends have accelerated in recent years, driven by innovative recruitment strategies, new financial aid offerings, expanded , and a growing global footprint.
Facing Global and Domestic Enrollment Shifts
Despite this momentum, macro-level disruptions impacted fall enrollment. A temporary suspension of visa appointments by the U.S. Department of State created delays for some international students. These changes delayed or paused plans for many committed students who planned to begin their studies this fall. Calvin expects that some of these students may enroll in the spring semester instead.
"We are deeply grateful that a Calvin education continues to be sought after by students from all over the world,"鈥 said Jensen. 鈥淥ur international diversity enriches our classrooms and community, and we remain committed to supporting students as they navigate evolving immigration processes.鈥
Meanwhile, selective national universities opened their waitlists late in the cycle, pulling domestic students from institutions like Calvin, as they sought to backfill their own international shortfalls and funding cuts.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
While acknowledging these challenges, Calvin remains focused on innovation and long-term growth. The university has rolled out new recruitment strategies, expanded partnerships, and is leveraging technology and relationships to connect with prospective students in new ways. New financial aid awards, including a transfer grant and new awards for incoming freshman aim to make Calvin more accessible to a broader range of students.聽
The university is also celebrating its 150th anniversary this year with a series of events across the country and around the world鈥攃reating opportunities to connect with alumni, families, and prospective students who are drawn to Calvin鈥檚 mission of forming Christ鈥檚 agents of renewal.
鈥淐alvin鈥檚 story is one of resilience and renewal,鈥 said President Greg Elzinga. 鈥淎s we celebrate our 150th year, we鈥檙e not just looking back鈥攚e鈥檙e building forward. And this fall鈥檚 class is another step toward a vibrant and faithful future.鈥
