Lessons
Ìý

Any Calvin student (regardless of major) can study individually with one of our gifted faculty members. Private lessons are available in the areas of brass, composition, guitar, organ, percussion, piano, strings, voice, and woodwinds.
Getting Started in LessonsÌý
Students should begin by registering for the appropriate lesson section (see instructions below). During the first week of the semester, the area coordinator will assign students to an appropriate private instructor. Some performance areas may require a placement audition to help determine studio assignment and lesson level; placement auditions will be arranged by area coordinators as needed. Students should email their complete schedule (including classes, regular work commitments, etc.) to their assigned instructor during the first week of classes. The instructor will then coordinate with the student to establish a weekly lesson time. Students should contact the Music Office if they have registered for lessons but have not received a lesson time by the second week of classes.ÌýÌý
Full-time faculty members serve as coordinators for private lessons within each performance area:Ìý
- Dr. Tiffany Engle—woodwind, brass, and percussion | tiffany.engle@calvin.edu
- Dr. Xander Koops—strings, guitar, harp | xander.koops@calvin.edu
- Dr. Mark Stover—voice | mark.stover@calvin.eduÌý
- Dr. Forrest Wakeman—piano, organ, harpsichord, composition | forrest.wakeman@calvin.edu
Upon registering for lessons, students will see the area coordinator listed as teacher of record even though the actual lessons are often taught by a different private lesson instructor to whom students have been assigned.
